The freight is the name given to the fee paid to the transport company for the transport with methods such as goods by highway, railway, airway, seaway or intermodal. Different factors such as the chosen shipping method, starting and destination point, size, weight and, if any, transport requiring special handling (cooling or hazardous material) in the calculation of freight charges are taken into consideration.

There are universally accepted rules for the sale of goods, including the responsibilities of senders. These rules are the answer to the question of what is incoterms. Incoterms rules are subject to the 2020 International Trade Terms. Incoterms consisting of a number of commercial terms and often used in abbreviations, are published by the International Chamber of Commerce and its main purpose is to facilitate trade around the world. Incoterm is globally recognized and the responsibilities of the trading parties are clarified and confusion in international contracts is avoided thanks to these terms.

You must count the number of boxes, structured load bags, barrels, and freeform bags, and measure the length, width, height, and weight of each, for shipping in your container. In addition, another important point in the container freight calculation is the origin and destination points of the load. If you send us this information via our contact form or enco@enco.com.tr, the container freight calculation will be made.

Air cargo is generally the preferred method for transporting load in emergency situations. Which airports will be transported, the conditions of door-to-door transport are effective in calculating the freight. You must work with authorized and reliable companies such as ENCO for this service. You can learn detailed information about our service and freight calculation by filling out the contact form.

Freight cost, also known as the freight rate, is the amount paid to a carrier company to transport goods from their point of origin to an agreed place. The freight cost is calculated according to the type of transport, the distance between the pickup location and the destination.

The highway transport varies according to whether the load is filling the entire vehicle or not. Full truck load or FTL – Full Truckload expression is used for loads that fill the entire vehicle. Loads that do not fully fill a vehicle are called partial or LTL, namely Less Than Truckload. LTL and FTL pricing are different from each other due to complete truck transport requires less workload than partial transport.

Freight prices are affected by many different factors. For example, in cases where the load does not fill a container, weight and volume are important factors in the calculation process. In addition, factors such as the mode of operation of the logistics route, transport time, and the characteristics of the container are also important for the calculation. The prices may increase in lines used less frequently while the prices are more favorable in logistics lines with high circulation volume. The type of the container also affects the price. Different costs will be paid for the load to be transported in a 20′ container and a 40′ container. In addition, the origin country of the load and the distance of the country to which it is sent, and the travel time of the load are also effective in freight calculations. On the other hand, whether there is a return load also affects the freight price. The freight will be higher if the load cannot find freight for return.

The freight rates are the cost at which a particular freight is delivered from one point to another. In calculations related to freight costs, the mode of transport (highway transport, airway transport or seaway transport), the nature and shape of the load to be transported (unpackaged, containerized load, etc.) or the volume of the load and its distance to the place of delivery are taken into account. In addition, the local transport costs to be made between the load owner’s factory and the loading port, port costs and port costs in the country of import are also calculated.

Ship freight calculation varies depending on whether the loads transported by seaway are partial or complete. If the load is partial load, the gross weight and volumetric weight of the load is calculated. The freight value is determined on the higher of these values. Seaway transport is generally more economical than other modes. Seaway freight calculation results are more suitable than other types of transport.

The freight calculation formula is the formula used to determine the volumetric weight of the load. If the load does not fill a container, the freight calculation formula used is pallet dimensions (80 × 120)x container height (2.4)x number of pallets (5)x1000 m3. The first part of the process is the total volume. This value is multiplied by the coefficient of 1000 m3 and the process is concluded. The result obtained at the end of the process is compared with the real weight and the calculation is made over the higher value.

Airway load shipment freight calculations generally take into account the weight of the shipped loads. In airway transport, the result of airway freight calculation is reached by taking the departure and arrival addresses of the load into account. In addition, the distance of the country to be sent to and the frequency of flights to that country, and the characteristics of the country, such as war, chaos, difficult geographical conditions, are also effective in the freight calculation results.

The road freight calculation is carried out by taking into account variables such as distance, vehicle occupancy rate, route density. The freight rate increases as the distance increases. Whether the vehicle is a complete or partial load also changes the price. The prices decrease as the usage density of the line on which the transport is carried out increases. The freight costs are more favorable on lines with return loads. For example, Turkey-Germany is one of the lines with the most highway transport. For this reason, the costs of this line are more affordable than other lines at the same distance. On the other hand, even the season and date of the transport affect the freight calculation results. In some periods, foreign trade activities increase and freight costs are determined in parallel with this increase.

The freight insurance is carried out in order to protect the buyer, intermediary and seller from possible risks while the load is transported from one point to another. The freight insurance calculation reveals how much the freight insurance that provides coverage will be depending on the conditions specified in the policy against the risks that may occur during the logistics process of the load. Anyone who has a relationship with the shipper, delivery area or the shipped load can take out this insurance. The freight insurance can be made for the damage or damage to the load due to the accident to be incurred by the vehicle, as well as for a more comprehensive, covering all hazards. The scope of the insurance includes the total or partial damage to the goods as a result of the sinking, settling, collision, overturning of the ship at sea and the associated rescue or common average costs. In the freight insurance calculation process, the value of the shipped load and the risk are taken as basis. The higher the value of the load and the risk, the higher the freight insurance calculation result.

The most suitable mode of transport in terms of price varies according to the proximity of the load’s starting point, destination address and delivery date. The seaway transport is generally more affordable than other modes of transport. However, airway transport is preferred instead of seaway transport for transports with limited time. In addition, highway transport may be more reasonable for destinations where ports are far away and highway distances are relatively small. The railway transport should also be included in the assessment as an economical and environmentally friendly option if there is a railway line close to the delivery point.

However, the most important criterion to consider when purchasing logistics service should be the reliability of the transporter company, not the price. Taking the necessary precautions for your products to arrive at their destination safely and securely and preparing insurance policies for possible risks are important details for the logistics process.

The most important point to be considered when receiving transport service is the reliability of the company providing the service. The arrival of your products as they are on the way to the delivery address, informing you about this process, and sharing the arrival date correctly are important points for load transportation service receiver.

Another point to be considered is the insurance of the products against the risks that occur during transport. Transport insurance protects both the service receiver and the service provider against many possible risks. Besides, the delivery date should be discussed clearly. In addition, attention should be paid to who will pay the costs such as the port cost, and who will be responsible for the transports such as the last transport to be made from the port to the destination. In the international logistics sector, certain abbreviations are used in order to prevent such confusion and they are called incoterms.
