Road transportation between Turkey and Germany is one of the busiest freight routes. Germany holds a significant share in Turkey’s foreign trade, resulting in a high volume of logistics circulation. Today, transportation between the two countries is not only carried out by road, but also through various alternative methods. These alternatives are formed by supporting road transportation with sea and rail transport. Companies choose the most suitable method depending on the type of cargo, budget, and delivery time requirements.

ALTERNATIVES IN ROAD TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN TURKEY AND GERMANY

Freight transportation between Turkey and Germany is carried out not only by road, but also by rail and sea. Increasing environmental concerns and the rise of maritime transport have led to the growing use of the transportation model known as RO-RO. This has made RO-RO a common method between the two countries.

FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN GERMANY AND TURKEY WITH RO-RO

One of the most common methods in freight transportation between Germany and Turkey involves the use of RO-RO vessels.

First, in shipments from Turkey to Germany, goods are transported by road to ports such as Istanbul, Izmir, or Mersin. Then, the trailers are loaded onto vessels and shipped to Italy’s Trieste Port. At Trieste, trucks pick up the trailers and deliver them through Austria to Germany.

The logistics process from Germany to Turkey follows the reverse path. First, the cargo is transported from Germany to the Trieste Port by truck, loaded onto RO-RO ships, and once it arrives at a Turkish port, it is delivered to its destination by road.

This method reduces carbon emissions and simultaneously lowers costs.

FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION BY RAIL

In recent years, companies have been prioritizing rail transport to achieve sustainability. Supported by road transport, rail offers economic, eco-friendly, and flexible solutions.

Therefore, rail transport is an important alternative in freight transportation between Turkey and Germany. Goods are brought by truck to Çerkezköy and then transferred to trains for shipment to Germany. Once the goods arrive by train in Germany, they are delivered to the final address by truck.

INTERMODAL FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION

Intermodal transport has become one of the most popular transportation models in recent years. It involves supporting road transportation between Germany and Turkey with sea and rail components.

Cargo picked up from the customer is loaded onto RO-RO ships and sent to the Trieste Port. At Trieste, the cargo is transferred to trains and shipped to Germany. From the train, it is delivered to the destination by truck.

Intermodal transportation is one of the most environmentally friendly transport models. Based on maritime transport supported by rail and road, intermodal solutions offer flexibility in door-to-door delivery between Germany and Turkey.

EXPRESS FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION

Express transportation is preferred for time-sensitive shipments from Germany to Turkey or vice versa. It is especially used for cargo that does not fully load a truck. Using smaller vehicles and typically two drivers, express delivery ensures your cargo is transported between Germany and Turkey within a few days upon request.

Express shipping can also be carried out with trucks for larger shipments. Trucks with two drivers reach the destination much faster than standard transport methods.

ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE IN FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN GERMANY AND TURKEY – AIR TRANSPORTATION

Another commonly used method in freight transportation between Germany and Turkey is air transportation.

Air freight is especially suitable for time-sensitive shipments. Used frequently for transporting medical equipment and hazardous materials, air freight offers fast solutions and enables door-to-door delivery when supported by road transportation. Road transport plays a key role in moving goods to the airport and from the airport to the delivery address.
