Today, approximately 30,000 parts are required to manufacture a single automobile.

The automotive industry has turned the world into a global village. The parts required to produce a vehicle can be sourced from various countries, and the manufactured vehicles are distributed across the globe. Production facilities operate continuously 24/7, which necessitates uninterrupted spare parts logistics.

The automotive industry is one of the largest industries in the world. It is also a highly competitive sector. To maintain both quality and profitability, automotive brands prefer to work with trusted suppliers. One of the most critical suppliers in the automotive industry is logistics companies that are a part of the supply chain.

AUTOMOTIVE AND SPARE PARTS LOGISTICS

Timing in automotive production is undoubtedly crucial. To ensure that the production line doesn't stop, a certain safety stock must be maintained, and parts must be delivered to the facility on time by the logistics company. When viewed holistically, this process reflects the understanding of supply chain management.

Automotive manufacturers that want to protect their profitability avoid working with high stock levels. Therefore, they adopt the JIT (Just in Time) logistics approach.

SUPPLY CHAIN FOR THE AUTOMOTIVE SECTOR

To reduce costs and increase profitability in automotive production, it is important to work with experienced companies in warehouse management and logistics processes, particularly in 3PL and 4PL services. Companies that are experts in supply chain management and understand the needs and dynamics of the sector will contribute to profitability at every step, from collecting materials from suppliers to warehousing, delivering to the production facility, and distributing to the end user.

Maintaining communication with suppliers, collecting materials from the facility, storing them under suitable conditions if necessary, and delivering them just in time to the main production facility is possible with an expert team.

AUTOMOTIVE LOGISTICS SOLUTIONS

Automotive spare parts and sub-industry logistics is a service needed by suppliers of all sizes. This service can be customized according to the needs of manufacturing companies. Here are the logistics solutions for automotive spare parts and sub-industry:

CONTRACT LOGISTICS

Preferred by companies with regular logistics operations based on a planned schedule. This transportation agreement is made between the manufacturer and the logistics company for a fixed term and fee. Thus, manufacturers are not affected by fluctuations in logistics prices and can plan their budgets more easily. Working with a specific company also allows easier solutions for all kinds of issues.

LTL TRANSPORTATION

LTL (Less-than-Truckload) is a method preferred for shipments that do not fill an entire vehicle. In short, it is based on the principle of sharing a vehicle with other shipments. With this option, manufacturers pay only for the space their cargo occupies, making logistics processes more affordable.

FTL TRANSPORTATION

FTL (Full Truckload) is used for the transportation of cargo that fills an entire vehicle. FTL, a door-to-door logistics service, is ideal for one-time or infrequent shipments. However, if you have regular logistics needs on a specific route, contract logistics is a better option. With contract logistics, the cost does not change seasonally, vehicle availability remains high even during peak periods, and shipments are more economical and budget-friendly.

SPRINT TRANSPORTATION

Also known as express transportation, sprint transport is ideal for time-sensitive shipments. While a normal logistics process may take 10–15 days, express transport can deliver in just 2 days. One of the main elements that speed up the process is the use of dual drivers. Smaller vehicles are also typically used, which shortens the distance by accessing roads closed to large trucks. Due to factors such as dual drivers, sprint transport may be slightly more expensive than other logistics options.

AUTOMOTIVE SPARE PARTS AND SUB-INDUSTRY WAREHOUSING SOLUTIONS

Storing automotive parts requires warehouse areas and technologies customized for these parts. Additionally, stock control technologies such as labeling and RFID, as well as warehouse management modules that support order systems, should be integrated.

In addition to these services, value-added services such as light assembly, scrap and waste management, and product quality control can also be added to warehouse management. This will serve as a 4PL partnership that simplifies processes for both suppliers and manufacturers.
